B-hive is an agri-tech company using cutting edge technology to create solutions to real life problems in agriculture. We are looking for an R&D scientist to work alongside our TuberScan project team. TuberScan data will drive early interventions to increase marketable yield from the crop. The R&D scientist will mainly be looking at the use of GPR for underground sensing, producing meaningful insight from the raw data. 
Fixed term (project contract) 18 months with potential for contract extension post-project dependant on the candidate. 

Responsibilities and duties:
•    Plan and conduct field trials using ground penetrating radar (and other sensors)
•    Analyse data from trials including algorithm development to convert raw radar data into meaningful information
•    Implement Ground Penetrating Radar signal processing algorithms and apply these to the processing of large data sets.
•    Evaluate performance of advanced radar electronics & ultra-wideband antennas
•    Support further development of the system into a commercial product 
•    Present and discuss results with project partners
•    Work alongside industrial and academic partners 
•    Assist with miscellaneous tasks as required with wider project team


Qualifications and skills:
•    Education – degree level or equivalent in relevant field (Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or similar)
•    Experience in programmes such as MATLAB, Python, C++, and their applications to digital image and signal processing 
•    Knowledge of electromagnetic fields and propagation 
•    Rigorous experimentalist 
•    Attention to detail
•    Innovative approach to problem solving 
•    Willingness to learn 
•    Clean UK driving licence 
•    Able to work in a fast paced environment to tight deadlines

Working hours: generally, Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00. Potential for variability within busy periods.
Location: B-hive office, Lincoln. With occasional travel across the UK.
